Checkdam coming up on Godavari at Basar
The Telangana government is going to construct a checkdam at the Saraswati temple town of Basar in Adilabad district. The government on Saturday issued the necessary work orders. It would be built at a cost of Rs 33.18 crore. The checkdam was expected to meet the needs of pilgrims visiting the temple town. Even in the normal years, there is no flow in the Godavari at Basar. Water may be flowing midstream, but on the banks pilgrims make do with virtually stagnant water. The checkdam is therefore expected to provide them with flowing water. However, after the construction of Babli and other dams upstream on the river in Maharashtra, there is not a drop trickling in years such as this year. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is expected to ensure flows in the river. For, the Godavari is expected to meet needs of Hyderabad also.
