NDA indulges in Rajiv Gandhi name-dropping
The BJP-led NDA government at the Centre is systematically dropping Rajiv Gandhi from names of programmes. This is naturally anathema to the Congress, which is bound to cry intolerance. The Grand Old Congress Party has liberally used Rajiv Gandhi name in all programmes. The State governments, ruled by the Congress, also liberally attached Rajiv Gandhi to virtually all programmes in their jurisdiction. The Centre is on a Rajiv Gandhi name-dropping spree at present. The Central Panchayati Raj Department is going to drop his name from Rajiv Gandhi panchayat Sasaktikaran Abhiyan from April 1. The same will be the case with the Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship for Students with Disabilities, and also Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship for the Scheduled Castes. The Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan is going to be smart Khelo India. Minimalism is good, but not politics khelte jao, without doing much on the ground. The then Chief Minister, YS Rajasekhar Reddy, had got the name of GMR airport changed to name it after Rajiv Gandhi to please Congress president Sonia Gandhi. But that did not help his son, YS Jaganmohan Reddy, till he allegedly paid the price.
