Rly Budget lacklustre from AP-end
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu maybe the toast of the intellectual circles among politicians, but his budget presentation on Thursday was rather a dull one, with no goodies for the eagerly awaiting people all over the country. Take the case of the new States of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, forcibly split by the previous Congress government, they got anything mentioned about them only once and that too in passing in budget terms. Vijaywada was mentioned in connection with the dedicated freight corridor proposed to be built connecting it to Kharagpur. Hyderabad was mentioned in connection with the State-Centre partnership for improving the suburban rail travel. Tirupati was mentioned once, not because of the Lord but in regard to improvement of the station amenities. Railways have been making profits from the zone, more than other zones, and the employees are dedicated since the times of the Nizam State Railway. AP, therefore, deserves better treatment.
