KCR makes medical review after Governor visits Gandhi
Within 24 hours of Governor ESL Narasimhan expressing displeasure over the conditions in the Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday conducted a review of the Health and Medical Ministry with the officials and Minister Laxma Reddy. Following the review, the Chief Minister announced that four 1000-bed hospitals would be built in Hyderabad. These would be located at Malkajgiri, Uppal-LB Nagar, Cantonment and Kukatpalli. He directed the officials to find suitable locations in these places. The Governor had on Friday made a surprise visit to Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad and was angered by a number of patients having to sleep on the floors. He gave a piece of his mind on the other lacunae in the hospital to the minister. Both the major Government Hospitals in the twin cities had been built before Independence. If you start building four hospitals at a time now, imagine the numbers of years it would take to fructify. The Chief Minister said Government Hospitals would hereafter be as good as corporate hospitals, and the necessary funds would be released for the purpose. The medical staff working in rural areas would be given additional allowance. A team would be sent to Tamil Nadu to study the easy availability of medical treatment for the people in that State. Emergency services such as 108 and 104 would also be strengthened. Highway police patrols would coordinate with 108 and 104 services.
