Kapu demand goads BCs into action in AP

The violent turn to the Kapu agitation is forcing the communities listed among the Backward Classes to counter the inclusion of that community in 25% reservation meant for the BCs. The communities staged a demonstration at Kakinada, not far from Tuni, at the East Godavari Collectorate, where hundreds of BCs participated, on Thursday. The Kapu demand is apparently leading to a war-like stiuation in Coastal Andhra wherein the other communities do not want to share the 25% reservation with the better off Kapus. These communities have been egged on by reports that the Kapus would eat into the 25% reservation for the BCs, leaving the communities with little. The BC communities have lined up demonstrations throughout the Andhra towns. At Vijayawada on Wednesday, a BC communities meeting declared a virtual war on the Kapu demand. Why do you need the BC tag, R. Krishnaiah, BC leader and Telangana TDP MLA, asked the Kapus directly. Krishnaiah warned the AP governent that any concession to the Kapus would not be taken lying down by the BCs.
