HC puts brakes on AAP civic poll decision
The ruling Aam Admi Party's plans to go for fresh municipal elections got a jolt on Saturday with the Delhi High Court putting brakes on the move. The High Court told AAP to first carry out the byelections for the 13 divisions, which were due for long. The court also stipulated that the byelections should be carried out within 3 months. The three Muncipal Corporations in New Delhi are due for fresh polls in 2017 only. The AAP idea was to go ahead with fresh polls straight away cashing in on their spectacular success which put it in power, making a clean sweep in the Delhi Assembly elections. With this in view, AAP wanted to dissolve the existing corporations, and thereby secure power in fresh polls. However, the High Court gave a shock to AAP and put paid to its idea of steamrolling the municipal corporations.
