Green Tribunal gives green signal for Sompeta zone
The Multiproducts zone at Sompeta in Srikakulam district has obtained permission of the State Green Tribunal. The NCC company is going to set up the Multiproducts zone in 729-acre land. Originally a thermal products zone was proposed in the area. The AP government has now allowed a multiproducts zone, to which NCC has agreed. To this extent, the Green Tribunal has clarified that there is no necessity for getting a clearance of the local people for the multiproducts zone. It maybe recalled that the people of the area are sensitive to any developmental activity that will impact the environment. However, the North Coast districts in Andhra Pradesh are underdeveloped, backward and need rapid development. The multiproducts zone to some extent meets their developmental needs. Thousands of people from Srikakulam district are working as construction labour or watchmen in the combined capital of Hyderabad.
