Nagender, Vishnuvardhan clash on Somajiguda seat
With withdrawal of nominations coming to an end on Thursday, the candidates of various parties had made a last-ditch effort to secure the political party affiliation to fight the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections. The elections have acquired unusual importance because this is the first corporation election after the combined AP was split and new entitites have come into the picture in a big way. Three or four candidates each have filed their nominations for various political parties in the hope the party would give them the B-form making them the official candidate. The others may or may not remain in the fray. But if they have turned rebel, they will continue the fight. It's not just the corporation candidates but even those who have represented the assembly are fighting for the respective seats for their nominees. For the prestigious Somajiguda corporation seat, the greater Hyderabad Congress unit president Danam Nagender and Vishnuvardhan Reddy, former MLA, are fighting for the B Form for their resepctive candidates. Nagender claimed he had the right to nominate his candidate as the president of the Hyderabd unit. Besides, he is the former MLA of the area. Vishnuvardhan, who is son of labour leader P. Janardhan Reddy, wants the seat to be given to his candidate by virtue of his father's services to the people. Congress seniors are holding their head unable to please both Nagender and Vishnuvardhan. Meanwhile, some 450 candidates have withdrawn from the fray by the time of closure of withdrawals.
