ASI Mohan Reddy refused bail

Justice Ilangovan of the Hyderabad High Court was surprised on Tuesday that the suspended ASI Mohn Reddy of Karimnagar had amassed wealth of over Rs.100 crore. The Judge was dealing with the bail plea on behalf of the ASI who has been put in judicial custody. Mohan Reddy has been remanded to judicial custody when suicide by Crest Crane School correspondent Ramavaram Prasad Rao came to light. Mohan Reddy gives loans and recovers assets from his victims. Following appeals by victims, the cases against Mohan Reddy have been taken up by the CID. Twice Mohan Reddy's bail plea has been rejected so far. On Tuesday, the defence pleaded that since the accused was co-operating with the authorities and already spent quite some time in custody, he should be released on bail. Public Prosecutor for the CID Rami Reddy argued that while working as ASI Mohan Reddy had used his official position for illegally recovering assets from his tens of victims and thus he had amassed wealth of Rs.100 crore. When the case was at a crucial stage, if he were released on bail, Mohan Reddy could get back to his contacts and put pressure on the victims and turn the opportunity in his favour, the prosecutor stated. At this stage the judge asked whether the illegal acquisition of wealth by the accused was really Rs.100 crore. When told in the affirmative, the judge deemed that the illegal methods had accounted for innocent lives and that he deserved no bail. The judge refused him bail.
