TDP-BJP combine shares 90-60 seats for GHMC contest
Even though an understanding between the TDP and the BJP has been reached over seat-sharing in the run-up to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections, the latter party is bargaining for some more. The understanding reached past midnight on Friday is said to be TDP:BJP 90:60 ratio. Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar had to intervene to secure the prestigious Jubilee Hills seat for the BJP. He had to use his good offices and also those of Srujana Chowdhary, Union Minister, and Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to contest the prestigious seat by his party. Despite the midnight understanding, the BJP is said to be bargaining for five more seats. All this shows the importance of the GHMC polls. After the first flush, which was won over by the Telangana Rashtra Samiti, in the assembly elections, politically things have settled down. The stakes are now very high for the All-India Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen, TDP, TRS, BJP and the Congress. It now remains to be seen which party or which combination will emerge the winner. Although the ruling TRS is at present going alone, it may have to team up with the AIMIM sooner than later because of the stiff fight expected from the TDP-BJP combine.
