TS to relax rules to permit beer makers to dig borewells

Hyderabad, Dec 1: With a view to stem the shortage of beer production in the state, Telangana government is proposing to permit the six breweries in Sangareddy to dig borewells and pump out water to produce beer. For this purpose, the government proposes to relax the provisions of the Water, Air, Land and Trees Act (WALTA Act) in Sangareddy region. Till now, under the WALTA Act borewell water is not allowed to be commercialised. However, as the government is proposing to stop the supply of water from Singur from today and ue the water for drinking water needs, the government proposes to relax the Act. If this is not done with immediate effect, then the state is expected to face a severe shortage of beer supply starting from January.
