Heavy rains lash parched Prakasam

Hyderabad, Nov 9: Under the influence of deep depression in the Bay of Bengal today, heavy rain lashed different parts of the parched Prakasam District in Andhra Pradesh. The rains cheered up the farmers who were longing for rains to save their withering crops. The weather officials had predicted light to heavy rain coupled with thundershowers at some places in the district in the next 48 hours. They also predicted strong average wind speeds of 40 kmph gusting at 70 kmph during the period. Chief Planning Officer P.B.K. Murthy said the district on an average received 9.7 mm. Singarayakonda received 8.8 cm, Kothapatnam (8.5 cm) and Kandukur (6.3 cm), Ulavapadu (4.7 cm), Gudlur (4 cm), Tangatur (3.2 cm) and V.V. Palem (3 cm).
