TS sets up committee to select drought-hit mandals

Hyderabad, Oct 7: Relenting to the opposition demand, Telangana government today appointed a committee to select the drought-hit mandals in the state. Special Chief Secretary Satish Chandra is to head the eight-member committee. Due to below normal rainfall this year, several mandals and districts in the state are facing drought conditions triggering farmer suicides. In this background, the just-constituted committee has been mandated to gather information on drought conditions in the various mandals in the state. Also, all the opposition parties in the state had been demanding the declaration of a list of drought-hit mandals in the state.
