Enquiry ordered into Karnataka train accident

New Delhi, Sep 12: Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Saturday said the derailment of Mumbai-bound Duronto Express in Karnataka was "saddening" and that an enquiry has been ordered into the accident. "Saddened by Duronto accident. Ordered enquiry. Immediate medical relief and other assistance rushed. Chairman of the railway board has been asked to rush to the spot," Prabhu tweeted. "All the injured being rushed to hospitals. We will give ex-gratia to the injured, unfortunate families of the dead," he added. Two passengers were killed and seven others injured when the Secunderabad-Bandra (Mumbai) Duronto Express derailed in Karnataka early Saturday. The train derailed at 2.15 a.m. when nine bogies jumped off the tracks near Martur station in Karnataka's Gulbarga district. Of the seven injured, three had suffered serious injuries, officials said.
