Currency notes still bear RBI ex-governor signature

New Delhi/Hyderabad, August 3: The incident came to light late where the currency notes were printed with the signature of D. Subbarao, former governor of Reserve Bank of India (RBI). After Subbarao's retirement, Raghuram Rajan took over as the RBI Governor in September 2013. RBI issued orders to all printing units to print currency notes with Rajan's signature from January 2014. Despite these instructions, the Bank Note Press in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh continued to print currency notes with Subbarao's signature. It has printed Rs 20, Rs 100 and Rs 500 value within two months. These notes are worth Rs 37 crore. RBI offices rejected these notes.
