Beijing/Hyderabad, August 3: Ever thought of sterilizing mosquitoes? Is it possible? China scientists says 'yes, its possible'. They successfully performed the sterilizations also. 22,000 dengue deaths per year sent alarming signals to the China government. About 47,000 people suffering from the same disease in Guangdong province in China last year. Deciding to wage a war against the deadly dengue, Chinese government started a mosquito factory, the biggest in the world. 10 lakh mosquitoes will be sterilized and released every week from the science city factory set up in Shazi Island in Guangzhou of South China. These sterilized mosquitoes cannot reproduce. The factory was started on an experimental basis and mosquito population in the surrounding areas fell by about 90 per cent, according to officials. The scientists said similar factories will be established in several places to put a check to Malaria and other diseases in future, if this experiment becomes successful.
