Prisons dept files case against Telugu channel

Hyderabad, July 30: The Telangana Prisons Department today filed a case against a Telugu news channel accusing it of telecasting a false report on seizure of narcotic substances at Cherlapally prison. Cherlapally Central Jail Superintendent KV Reddy lodged a complaint with the Kushaiguda police. In the complaint, the jail Superintendent stated that the channel had telecast a scroll-line alleging that the jail officials seized 1.5 kg of ganja (Marijuana) that was buried inside Brahmaputra barrack in the prison. In a statement, the Superintendent said that the news channel has defamed the institution as well as the department. It may be noted that hardcore and notorious criminals and terrorists were also lodged at the prison.
