AP to light up capital with Rs 1,000 cr investment
Hyderabad, July 24: The Andhra Pradesh State's new capital will get 24-hour continuous power supply with high voltage sub-stations and EHT lines. AP Transco Chief Engineer (Constructions) J Devanand said a new power system is to be set up for the new capital city, sprawled over 16.9 square km. The government is gearing up to start works with about Rs. 1,000 crore from October 22 if the Singapore government submits seed capital master plan. In this backdrop, Devanand inspected areas selected for constructing sub-stations. According to him, proposals were made for constructing eight sub-stations, which were gas-insulated (GIS) that could be constructed in less place with more expenditure. Underground cables will be laid in entire capital city area at the cost of Rs 20 crores per each kilometre. 800 mw additional power could be generated with the construction of eighth unit of NTPS, Vijayawada. 500 mw power from this unit and another 500 mw from Srisailam, Vemagiri and power grid lines will be taken. If needed, another thermal power station would be constructed. Works to divert seven heavy power lines from core capital area to other areas will be taken up. Proposals were made for setting up of multi-circuit towers to lay four lines with 50 m gap within corridor limits. The estimated expenditure for this project is around Rs 250 crores.
