Indian drug cases rising in Kuwait

Dubai/Hyderabad, July 24: The number of cases of Indians being charged for alleged transportation and possession of drugs and narcotics in Kuwait is increasing. According to Embassy sources, 137 out of 260 Indian nationals, who are currently in Kuwait jails, are slapped with cases related to drugs. After observing the alarming rise of such cases, the Indian Embassy in Kuwait issued an advisory to the Indian residents in this regard. It states, "More than 60 per cent of Indian nationals under detention and serving sentence in Kuwait Central jail are booked under cases related to drugs and narcotics. As per Kuwaiti laws, the punishment for violation of drug related crimes may lead to life imprisonment or even death. The Indian Embassy could not be of any help to the people who are caught on account of use, possession, trade or transportation of drugs or narcotics, as all have to abide by the Kuwaiti law." The Embassy suggested to the Indian nationals living in Kuwait to strictly obey the rules and regulations regarding the laws about drugs in that country.
