Give phone call data within a week: SC to telcos
New Delhi, June 23: The Supreme Court today directed the telecom service providers to provide phone call data related to phone-tapping cases within a week. The SC asked telcos to submit the data in sealed cover to Vijaywada Metropolitan Magistrate court. The SC ordered Vijayawada court to open the cover after three weeks and to start proceedings in the case after one month. It may be noted that the telcos moved to SC against the Vijayawada court's directive to provide phone call data in phone-tapping case. Andhra Pradesh government constituted a SIT to probe phone-tapping cases. The SIT sought call data of some numbers and Telangana government warned telcos against giving phone call data to AP. The service providers were asked not destroy the call data.
