High Court issue notices to AP govt

Hyderabad, July 20: The High Court, on its own, accepted the inquiry over the recent stampede in Rajahmundry as suo motu case and issued notices to Andhra Pradesh government. The court questioned the AP government on how and why the mishap took place and what are the rescue measures taken. The AP government was told to file its counter within a week. It should be reminded here that 29 pilgrims died in the stampede that took place at Rajahmundry pushkar ghat on July 14, the first day of Godavari Pushkaralu. More than 60 were injured. The incident occurred around 8 am immediately after AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and his family left the spot after taking holy dip in Godavari River. It was alleged that government negligence was the cause for the incident.
