In a historic political shift in Andhra Pradesh, particularly in Kadapa district, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP)-led alliance has wrested control of Pulivendula municipality—long regarded as an impregnable fortress of the YS family and the home turf of YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. This marks the first time in TDP’s 43-year political history that the party has successfully raised its flag in Pulivendula.

In the municipal chairperson election, TDP candidate Thugutla Geetha Kumari scored a resounding victory over YSRCP candidate YS Prameelamma by a massive margin of approximately 13,875 votes. The scale of the defeat in a region traditionally dominated by the YS family has come as a major shock to YSRCP ranks.

Ward-wise results further underscored the alliance’s complete dominance. Of the 20 wards that went to polls, the TDP-led alliance secured 17, while YSRCP managed to win only three. Including wards that were elected unopposed, the alliance candidates swept all 37 wards, firmly capturing the Pulivendula municipal council.

The victory was not limited to Pulivendula. Across Kadapa district, the TDP alliance registered a clean sweep, winning municipalities in Badvel, Jammalamadugu, Kamalapuram, Mydukur, Proddatur, Rajampet, and Yerraguntla. Political analysts believe these results could fundamentally alter the political equations in the district.
