HC raps TS over disqualification petitions of MLA, MLCs

Hyderabad, July 17: The Hyderabad High Court has asked the Telangana government to specify the timeframe required by Assembly Speaker and Council chairman for disposing the disqualification petitions filed against MLAs and MLCs who won on ticket of one party and defected to other parties. The court was dealing with the petitions filed by Congress and TDP over the delay in disposing the disqualification petitions of the MLAs who joined TRS. The court opined that it would serve no purpose if the petitions are tried after 5 years (completion of term). The court said that it would verify whether the courts have powers to decide on the petitions and directed the TS government to inform the timeframe for disposing the petitions within a week and posted next hearing to July 22.
