Hyderabad realtor and Home Land group head Banala Ram Reddy, 48, allegedly died by suicide at a farmhouse in Nedunur village of Kandukur mandal in Ranga Reddy district, with police investigating financial difficulties and disputes surrounding a stalled real estate venture in Patancheru.
Banala Ram Reddy hailed from Kandukur and was residing in the Manikonda-Gachibowli area of Hyderabad. His driver alerted family members, who rushed to the farmhouse on the outskirts of Nedunur and subsequently informed the police.
The body was shifted to Osmania Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Kandukur police registered a case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita following a complaint lodged by Banala Ram Reddy’s relative Koduru Praveen Reddy. Inspector H. Venkateshwarlu is leading the investigation.
Police recovered mobile phones and other material relevant to the inquiry and are examining the circumstances leading to Banala Ram Reddy’s death.
The investigation has focused in part on a large plotted development that Banala Ram Reddy had been pursuing in Patancheru since around 2018. He had entered into agreements with several landowners for the proposed venture and had borrowed substantial sums in anticipation of developing the land.
The project subsequently ran into difficulties as several land transactions remained incomplete. Some landowners sought to withdraw from the proposed deals because of delays, while others were unwilling to complete the required legal formalities and sought cancellation of their agreements.
Banala Ram Reddy was reportedly facing liabilities exceeding ₹50 crore in connection with the venture. He was also said to have entered into a 60:40 profit-sharing arrangement with partners.
Investigators recovered a written note in which Banala Ram Reddy allegedly named several people and described circumstances that preceded his death. Police are examining the contents of the note as part of the investigation.
A voice message attributed to Banala Ram Reddy is also under scrutiny. In the message, Banala Ram Reddy allegedly referred to landowners who had not completed the necessary documentation despite repeated requests.
Family members told police that Banala Ram Reddy had been distressed for several months over mounting financial liabilities and the prolonged difficulties surrounding the Patancheru project.
Separate allegations have emerged that pressure from certain political leaders over the project may have contributed to Banala Ram Reddy’s distress. The allegation has not been officially established, and police have not publicly identified any political leader in connection with the case.
Police are examining the land transactions, financial dealings, written note, electronic evidence and other circumstances surrounding Banala Ram Reddy’s death. No arrests have been reported, and the investigation remains underway.
