Lady doctor duped of Rs 48 lakh on the pretext of marriage

Hyderabad, July 6: A lady doctor from the city was duped of Rs 48 lakh by conmen on the pretext of marriage. The main accused befriended the victim through a matrimonial website. He created a fake profile in the name Abhishek Mohan on the website and claimed himself as an orthopaedic surgeon and Indian origin British citizen. They used to chat regularly and decided to marry. The accused used UK and Indian SIM cards and pretended that he was on international roaming. Later, Abhishek Mohan said that he would send some gold jewellery, medical equipment and other belongings on her address. On April, 7 the victim received a phone call from a person who claimed himself as a Customs Inspector and requested her to pay customs duties to claim the parcel. The victim transferred Rs 20 lakh to a bank account. Similarly, in the same manner they collected another Rs 28 lakh from the victim on the pretext of taxes. The victim borrowed the money from her friends and relatives. After some days, the victim contacted airport officials about the parcel as Abhishek’s phone remained switched off. As airport officials informed that there was no parcel in her name, the victim lodged a police complaint and the case was transferred to Delhi police. The Delhi police arrested three persons including a woman in connection with the case.
