New Delhi, July 27 : A tragic incident has come to light from Jalalpur village in Karjat taluka of Maharashtra’s Ahilyanagar district, where a student allegedly died by suicide after receiving lower-than-expected marks in the NEET examination.

The deceased student has been identified as Ankita Sangale. According to her family members, Ankita had scored 166 marks in the NEET exam. However, she was reportedly under stress as she had expected a higher score.

The incident took place on Saturday evening at around 4:30 p.m. at her residence. Family members said that Sangale had been provided a separate room for her studies, where she regularly prepared for her examinations.

When there was no response or movement from the room for a long time, family members opened the door and found her unresponsive. They immediately informed the police about the incident.

Following information provided by a family member, the police registered an accidental death report and began further investigation into the matter.

The incident has highlighted the growing concerns over academic pressure among students preparing for highly competitive examinations. Authorities and experts have repeatedly urged students and families to seek support during periods of stress and not allow exam results to affect their well-being.

Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Media investigations have highlighted a worrying rise in NEET-related student suicides, with cases reportedly reaching a record level in 2025. Experts have pointed to multiple factors contributing to the crisis, including intense competition, academic pressure, parental expectations, and the growing mental health burden associated with high-stakes entrance examinations.

Additionally, the cancellation of NEET-UG and the subsequent re-examination process following allegations of paper leaks significantly increased anxiety and uncertainty among aspirants. The disruption in the examination schedule, coupled with the pressure of securing medical admissions, added to the mental stress faced by many students. Reports indicated that more than a dozen aspirant suicides were documented in the weeks surrounding the re-examination period.
