Vijay to celebrate first birthday as TN Chief Minister today
Chennai, June 22 : Actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay turned 52 on Monday as he marked his first birthday since assuming office as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister. To mark the occasion, TVK functionaries have organised special prayers in temples, 'annadanam' programmes, blood donation camps and welfare assistance initiatives across the State, transforming Vijay’s first birthday as Chief Minister into a statewide celebration.
The occasion has sparked celebrations across Tamil Nadu, with party workers, supporters and well-wishers organising special events and welfare programmes in various districts.
Vijay’s rise from one of Tamil cinema’s most popular actors to the highest political office in the State has been one of the most remarkable political journeys in recent years.
He formally entered politics on February 2, 2024, when he announced the launch of his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), a move that immediately attracted widespread attention across the State.
Following the party’s formation, Vijay organised two major political conferences at Vikravandi and Madurai.
The events drew massive crowds and established TVK as a significant force in Tamil Nadu politics.
The actor-turned-politician steadily expanded his political base while presenting a vision centred on social justice, good governance and inclusive development.
As part of his political ideology, Vijay identified social reformer Periyar E.V. Ramasamy, former Chief Minister K. Kamaraj, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, freedom fighter Velu Nachiyar and social activist Anjalai Ammal as the guiding figures of his movement.
TVK contested the 2026 Assembly elections within two years of its formation. Campaigning across the State without entering into electoral alliances, Vijay appealed directly to voters and sought a mandate to bring political change.
His campaign resonated strongly with the electorate, with the party’s whistle symbol emerging as a prominent feature of the election season.
The election results delivered a historic victory for TVK, enabling Vijay to form the government and take oath as Chief Minister on May 10.
The victory marked a major shift in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape and cemented his transition from cinema icon to political leader.
With the Assembly session currently underway, legislators from both the ruling and Opposition Benches are expected to extend birthday greetings to the Chief Minister.
Reports also indicate that Vijay may make an important announcement in the Assembly during the day.
