Human skin bank in Guntur
Guntur, June 18: Arrangements were going on war footing for setting up 'Human Skin Bank' at Government General Hospital (GGH) in Guntur. NRI doctors, former students (gymkhana) of Guntur Government Medical College donated a whopping amount of Rs 20 crore for the Dr. Podila Prasad Super Specialty Block, constructed in GGH. Specially designed rooms for burns ward and ICU were also constructed. According to soucres, the gymkhana doctors felt that people with burn injuries may get infection if they are given treatment in normal wards, which may pose a threat to their life too. That is why they came forward to donate funds for the construction of special burns wards and burns ICU. Burns ICU facility was not there either in government or private hospitals in Andhra Pradesh State. Similar to heart, eyes, kidneys and other organs being removed from a dead person and stored to be arranged for some other person, latest equipment is being set up here to remove and store skin from dead persons. This skin will be grafted to other needy patients. Plans are afoot to complete this facility by the end of 2015.
