Tamil Nadu: Actor Vijay's TVK Set to Form Government with Support from Left Parties and VCK

n a significant political development, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor Vijay, has secured the required numbers to form the government in Tamil Nadu. The Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM), and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) have agreed to extend support to TVK, pushing the party past the magic figure of 118 seats.

TVK emerged as the single largest party in the recently held Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, winning 108 seats. However, since Vijay won from two constituencies, the party's effective strength stands at 107 MLAs. With the Congress party (5 MLAs) already announcing its support, TVK’s tally reached 112. The additional backing from VCK (2 MLAs), CPI (2), and CPM (2) has now taken the total to 118, exactly the majority mark.

Vijay is scheduled to meet Tamil Nadu Governor at 4:30 PM today and submit letters of support from the MLAs, formally staking claim to form the government. Official statements from CPI, CPM, and VCK confirming their support are expected to be released this evening.

This alliance marks a new chapter in Tamil Nadu politics, with a popular film star-turned-politician poised to take over the reins of power with the help of secular and left-leaning parties.
