US denies visa to 20 Indian archers

Hyderabad: Twenty Indian archers representing Junior and Sub-Junior teams in the World Youth Archery Championship to be held in Yaktun USA, were denied visas by US embassy in Delhi as they failed to convince the visa officials that they will return to India after the event. Of the 32 member squad for the tourney, 20 players were denied visas. The Archery Association of India officials are in contact with US officials and FITA (archery world body) to resolve the issue. With only two days time left, it is highly unlikely that the players will participate in the tourney. AAI officials said that most of these players are from poor background and rural areas and they could not communicate properly. These problems must have raised doubts in the minds of visa officers, they added. However, it is a set back for players as they miss a tourney in which 600 players from 60 countries are participating.
