West Indies thrashes Zimbabwe in T20 World Cup Super 8 match

The West Indies delivered a commanding performance in the Super 8 stage of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, defeating Zimbabwe by a massive 107 runs in their Group 1 clash at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on February 23, 2026.

Shimron Hetmyer starred with a blistering 85 off just 34 balls (7 fours and 7 sixes), anchoring West Indies' explosive innings after they were sent in to bat by Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza. Rovman Powell contributed a quick 59 off 35 balls, while Sherfane Rutherford remained unbeaten on 31 off 13. Lower-order cameos from Romario Shepherd (21 off 10) and Jason Holder (13 off 4) propelled West Indies to 254/6 in their 20 overs — the second-highest team total in T20 World Cup history.

Zimbabwe's bowlers struggled, with Richard Ngarava and Blessing Muzarabani picking up two wickets each, but the attack leaked runs at over 12 per over.

In reply, Zimbabwe's chase never gained momentum. They collapsed to 147 all out in 17.4 overs despite a fighting 43 off 21 balls from Brad Evans (including 5 sixes). Gudakesh Motie was the star with the ball for West Indies, claiming 4/28, while Akeal Hosein took 3/28 (including a double-wicket over). Matthew Forde chipped in with 2 wickets as West Indies bowled with discipline to seal a dominant win and boost their net run rate significantly in the Super 8 standings.

This result marks Zimbabwe's first defeat in the tournament and strengthens West Indies' position at the top of Group 1, putting pressure on other contenders like India for semi-final qualification.
