Ambati Rambabu was arrested by police in Guntur
Senior YSRCP leader and former minister Ambati Rambabu was arrested by police in Guntur on Saturday amid high tension, following allegations that he made obscene and derogatory remarks against Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
The arrest stemmed from comments made by Rambabu in response to TDP-installed flex banners in Guntur alleging ghee adulteration in Tirumala laddus during the previous YSRCP regime. Sources indicate that Rambabu responded with highly objectionable and abusive language directed at the Chief Minister, prompting outrage among TDP leaders and workers.
Hundreds of TDP activists and supporters gathered outside Rambabu's residence in Navabharat Nagar, Guntur, staging a prolonged protest that lasted over six hours. The demonstration turned violent, with reports of stones being pelted at the house and vehicles, including cars, being damaged and vandalized. Clashes erupted between the protesters and YSRCP supporters, leading to a charged atmosphere.
A complaint was filed by TDP state secretary Baji Chowdary, leading to the registration of a case by Nallapadu police. Guntur district TDP president Pilli Manikyala Rao also lodged a complaint with the Superintendent of Police, demanding action against Rambabu.
Amid intense tension and heavy security, police arrested Rambabu from his home and escorted him away in a special police vehicle to prevent further escalation.Several ruling alliance leaders strongly condemned Rambabu's remarks. Ministers including Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, Nimmala Ramanaidu, Home Minister Anitha, and Union Minister Pemmasani Chandrasekhar described the comments as "outrageous," "vile," and "shameful," urging him to issue an unconditional public apology immediately.
