Indian-American 8th grader tops National Geographic Society Bee competition

Washington, May 14 , 2015: A 14-year old Indian-American 8th grade student from New Jersey stood first in the prestigious National Geographic Society Bee competition 2015 in the USA. While Karan Menon topped the 10 finalists, the second and third honours too went in favour of Indian-origin American students. Seven Indian-origin students were among the ten finalists. National Geographic Society CEO Gary Knell conferred Bee Champion title on Menon at a specially drawn up function. As part of the competition, Menon received a prize money of USD 8500O towards his academic scholarship and free lifetime membership of the society. He was also offered a free expedition for two to Galapagos Islands on the Society cruiser. The second and third positions were received by Shriya Yarlagadda of Michigon and Sojas Wagle of Arkansas respectively.
