Youth climbs up 300-ft cell tower seeking special status to AP

Guntur, April 26, 2015: A youth in Guntur climbed up a cell tower here yesterday demanding special status to Andhra Pradesh. The youth, Sanjeeva Rao, went to the top of the tower around 10 a.m.on Saturday and spent more than 26 hours so far seeking special status to Andhra Pradesh. "My one and only demand is that our state must be granted special status immediately as per the announcement made by the Centre at the time of bifurcation," he said when officials asked him to come down. Meanwhile, officials are trying to ensure his safe climbing down the tower. They are appealing to him to come down and not cause any harm to self.

Actor Sivaji expresses concern over the incident
Actor Sivaji, who has spearheaded a serious debate on the issue of special status, expressed serious concern over the youth climbing up the cell tower. He said he spoke to Speaker Kodela Sivaprasad to take steps to ensure the safety of the youth Sanjeeva Rao. A big crowd has gathered at the tower as officials have spread out a net around the tower to ensure his safety in case he decides to jump down.
