CM Chandrababu Reviews Flood Situation in Krishna and Godavari Rivers

Amaravati, August 22: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu conducted a review meeting with government officials on the heavy water inflows and flood situation in the Godavari and Krishna rivers. From Delhi, the Chief Minister interacted with Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand, Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta, and other senior officials through a teleconference to assess the latest developments.

Officials informed the Chief Minister about the inflows into both rivers, submerged crops, and affected residential areas. Due to heavy inflows into the Krishna river, 5.20 lakh cusecs are being released downstream from Srisailam, 4.32 lakh cusecs from Nagarjuna Sagar, 4.07 lakh cusecs from Pulichintala, and 4.53 lakh cusecs from the Prakasam Barrage. Similarly, heavy inflows continue in the Godavari river, with 13,42,307 cusecs currently being released from the Dowleswaram Barrage.

Officials explained that due to the Godavari floods, connectivity to Lanka villages in the catchment area and Polavaram submergence villages has been cut off. The Chief Minister directed officials to keep people in these areas on constant alert and ensure all necessary arrangements are in place. He emphasized that the administration should focus on precautionary measures rather than only responding after problems arise. The Chief Minister stressed the need for preparedness to avoid inconvenience to the public. He also instructed that accurate and timely information must be sent to people’s phones regarding floods and heavy rains, leaving no scope for misinformation.

Measures to Prevent Fertilizer Shortage
The Chief Minister also reviewed the availability and supply of fertilizers and pesticides in the state. He instructed that the administration must ensure there is no shortage of fertilizers. Stern action will be taken if anyone creates artificial scarcity or diverts stocks. The Chief Minister directed vigilance officials to stay alert and ensure fertilizers are not diverted or sold at higher prices. If there are any reports of shortages, senior officials must personally verify and resolve the issue from the state level to the field level.

Gas Leak Incident near Kakinada
The Chief Minister enquired about the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) gas pipeline leak incident in the sea near Dhariyalathippa, Tallarevu Mandal of Kakinada district. Officials informed him that flames erupted around 1:30 AM due to the gas leak, but within an hour and a half, the gas supply was cut off and the leak was contained. They confirmed to the Chief Minister that there was no loss of life or property in the incident. The Chief Minister instructed government officials to conduct a thorough inspection of the leaked pipeline and take measures to ensure that nearby villagers are not put under any distress.
