Maoists kill 7 policemen in Sukma encounter

Raipur, April 11: In a major development, seven policemen were killed and 10 injured during an encounter with Maoists in the Sukma district of Chhattisgarh state on Saturday, according to R.K.Vij, the state's Additional Director General of Police (ADG), Anti-Naxal operations. Vij said at least seven jawans were lost today in the encounter south of Kankerlanka and Chintagufa village of Sukma. He also said 10 jawans were also injured in the encounter. The encounter was over and rescue operations were underway, he said. Vij claimed that it was a proper operation by the Special Task force of Chhattisgarh Police. "It was not a chance encounter,” he said.
