Bhogapuram people oppose airport, seek drinking, irrigation water

Vizianagaram, April 10, 2015: Opposing the proposed construction of an airport at Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram district, thousands of farmers demonstrated on Friday at the town's revenue office. Nearly 7000 farmers participated in the Dharna organised by an all party committee and raised slogans seeking water and not airport. The farmers, belonging to 150 villages nearby, have collected at the Revenue office and raised slogans opposing the land pooling for the construction of airport. They demanded the Government to supply water to them instead of an airport. "We don't want any airport. It is enough if you give us water to drink and irrigate our lands," they said, adding that they do not want any airport to come up at Bhogapuram. "There is no question of giving away our lands for the airport," they made it clear to the government.
