Operation Sindoor Effect: Rajasthan Shop Owner Renames Mysore Pak

In a move that has sparked widespread discussion, a sweets shop owner in Jaipur, Rajasthan, has renamed several traditional Indian sweets as a symbolic gesture of patriotism. Anjali Jain, owner of the renowned "Tyohar Sweets" in Jaipur, took the step of altering the names of several confections sold at her store, most notably renaming the widely known Mysore Pak to Mysore Shri.

This decision follows a surge in anti-Pakistan sentiment across India, particularly in the aftermath of recent events such as the Pahalgam terrorist attack and Operation Sindoor. In response, social media users began calling for the removal of the word "Pak"—which phonetically echoes “Pakistan”—from the names of Indian sweets. Anjali Jain found this suggestion resonant and decided to act on it by renaming the sweets in her store.

According to her statement, the changes include renaming Mysore Pak to Mysore Shri, Moti Pak to Moti Shri, Aam Pak to Aam Shri, and Gond Pak to Gond Shri. Similarly, Swarn Bhasham Pak and Chandi Bhasham Pak have been renamed Swarn Shri and Chandi Shri respectively.

“Patriotism is not limited to soldiers at the borders. Every citizen should harbor love for the nation. That is why we made this decision,” said Anjali Jain.

She further clarified that the word “Pak” originates from Sanskrit, where it refers to cooking or the act of preparation, particularly of sweet items made with sugar or jaggery. Although linguistically unrelated to the nation of Pakistan, the phonetic similarity has led to discomfort among some individuals, prompting the rebranding. Jain explained that the word Shri was chosen for its associations with auspiciousness and prosperity.
