APSRTC Employees Express Happiness Over Coalition Government's Decision

The coalition government has taken a decision that brings relief to thousands of employees working in the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC). The administration has reinstated the significant Circular 1/2019, which was previously discontinued by the former YSR Congress Party government. This decision is expected to benefit nearly 48,000 RTC personnel.

In the past, this circular served as a guideline in matters of disciplinary action against employees. However, after it was set aside, employee unions alleged that even minor mistakes were met with severe punishments. In response, employees, under the leadership of the National Mazdoor Union (NMU), recently held protests demanding the reimplementation of Circular 1/2019.

Against this backdrop, APSRTC management held discussions with NMU leaders following the directions of the state government. During these discussions, the union leaders conveyed their concerns that employees were being subjected to harsh penalties for minor infractions, which they considered unjust. The APSRTC management responded positively and issued written orders stating that, moving forward, all disciplinary actions must mandatorily adhere to the guidelines outlined in Circular 1/2019. The orders explicitly directed that any actions taken against staff must be in accordance with the stipulations of this circular.

NMU leaders expressed satisfaction with the recent developments. They conveyed their gratitude to Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, Transport Minister Ramprasad Reddy, and APSRTC Managing Director for addressing their demand. They appreciated the government’s decision as a step toward ensuring job security for employees. To explain the importance of the circular’s reinstatement to the workforce, the NMU has decided to organize gate meetings at all bus depots across the state on Friday.
