Indian Army Thwarts Pakistan’s Missile and Drone Attack on Golden Temple

On May 8, Pakistan launched an aerial attack on Amritsar in Punjab using drones and long-range missiles, with the primary target allegedly being the sacred Golden Temple. The Indian Army’s air defence forces successfully thwarted this attempt, ensuring the complete protection of the revered religious site.

Major General Karthik C. Seshadri, General Officer Commanding of the 15th Infantry Division of the Indian Army, disclosed this information on Monday. He stated that all drones and missiles directed toward the Golden Temple were effectively neutralised by Indian Army air defence gunners. “We know that the Pakistan Army lacks legitimate military targets. Hence, we anticipated they would attack Indian military installations as well as civilian and religious sites. The Golden Temple being the most significant among them, we deployed additional modern air defence systems to ensure its complete protection,” Major General Karthik C. Seshadri explained.

He further stated that on May 8, Pakistan employed unmanned aerial weapons, mainly drones and long-range missiles, in a large-scale aerial strike. “We had anticipated this in advance and were fully prepared. Our courageous and vigilant Army air defence gunners intercepted and destroyed all drones and missiles that approached the Golden Temple. Thus, we ensured that not even a scratch touched our sacred Golden Temple,” he said.

On Monday, the Indian Army conducted a demonstration showcasing how Indian air defence systems—such as the Akash missile system and L-70 air defence guns—successfully protected not only Amritsar in Punjab but also other cities from the Pakistani drone and missile attacks.
