Even After Three Wars, Nothing Was Achieved: Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that despite fighting three wars with India, no meaningful outcome had been achieved. Speaking at the special 'Youm-e-Tashakur' event in Islamabad, Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the importance of peaceful dialogue between Islamabad and New Delhi, urging that all outstanding issues—including the Kashmir dispute—should be resolved through discussions. He asserted that only through such measures could lasting peace be established between the two nations.

"Once peace is established, both countries can cooperate in anti-terror operations," said Shehbaz Sharif. He further remarked that without resolving these problems, peace would remain elusive not only in the region but also in any part of the world where either country had influence.

Reiterating Pakistan's stance, Shehbaz Sharif declared, “Pakistan is a peaceful country, but it retains the right to respond appropriately for its defense.” Referring to a recent military confrontation with India, he said that Pakistan had the right to defend itself decisively when needed.

The statement came in the wake of an intense four-day military confrontation between India and Pakistan along the border, which involved drone and missile attacks. Both countries agreed to a ceasefire on May 10 in an effort to de-escalate tensions.

Notably, Shehbaz Sharif's remarks followed shortly after Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh issued a stern warning to Pakistan. On Friday, Rajnath Singh affirmed that 'Operation Sindoor' had not concluded, declaring, “At the right time, we will show the world what we are capable of. Pakistan remains under our observation. If your behavior improves, it is in your interest. If not, the harshest punishment is inevitable.”

Rajnath Singh also recalled that the Indian armed forces carried out targeted strikes under ‘Operation Sindoor’ on May 7, in retaliation for the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 tourists. He reiterated that India would only engage in discussions with Pakistan on issues related to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and terrorism.
