Y S Sharmila Condemns BJP MP for Insulting Remarks on Colonel Sophia Qureshi

Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Y S Sharmila has strongly condemned the remarks made by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament Kunwar Vijay Shah against Colonel Sophia Qureshi, describing them as deeply insulting and shocking. Colonel Sophia Qureshi played a significant role in Operation Sindoor, and Sharmila stated that the religious and gender-based discriminatory comments made by the MP were not accidental, but rather a clear indication of the deep-rooted rot in the BJP’s mindset.

Y S Sharmila responded in the context of widespread public debate over the comments made by Kunwar Vijay Shah towards a female Army officer. “The religious and gender-discriminatory attack by BJP MP Kunwar Vijay Shah on Colonel Sophia Qureshi is not just a slip of the tongue. It reflects the decay entrenched in the BJP’s psyche. The applause he received in support of his remarks further confirmed this,” said Y S Sharmila.

“Is this the 'New India' that Modi and his associates boast about? Is humiliating respected women officers with such vile religious bigotry what defines the so-called new era?” Sharmila questioned in a sharp tone.

She further alleged that this was not an isolated incident but rather part of the BJP’s core ideological framework, which she claimed is based on religious validation. “BJP has become accustomed to hiding hate behind a veil of patriotism and engaging in communal politics. In pursuit of electoral gains, they are drawing divisive lines among Indians and destabilizing the delicate fabric of our society,” Sharmila criticized.

Y S Sharmila remarked that the time has come for India to reject individuals who harm national unity, insult women, and bring disgrace to democracy. She urged citizens to stay vigilant against forces that trample on the country’s interests and propagate hate.
