In a historic moment for India's cheetah reintroduction project, Siyaya, a Namibian cheetah translocated to Madhya Pradesh's Kuno National Park, has given birth to four cubs. The forest officials discovered the cubs on Wednesday morning, marking the first cheetahs to be born on Indian soil in over 70 years. The cheetahs had gone extinct in the country in 1952. The news was shared by Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav, who tweeted a picture of the cubs and congratulated India on the momentous event in its wildlife conservation history. The cubs' birth comes after the death of one of the eight Namibian cheetahs released into the national park in September 2022. Sasha, the cheetah, passed away on Monday, March 26th, after suffering from a severe kidney infection contracted during her captivity in Namibia.
