New Delhi: As part of the "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav" celebrations marking India's 75th Independence Day, the gardens at the President's official residence, Rashtrapati Bhavan, have been officially named "Amrit Udyan." The old road sign that referred to the gardens as "Mughal Gardens" was removed and taken away. The gardens, which were previously only open to the public during an annual festival, will now be open to visitors from January 31 to March 26. The 15-acre gardens, which were inspired by Mughal and Persian styles, were never officially named "Mughal Gardens" despite being referred to as such by the public and authorities. According to the Rashtrapati Bhavan's website, Amrit Udyan draws inspiration from the Mughal Gardens in Jammu and Kashmir, gardens around the Taj Mahal and miniature paintings of India and Persia.
