After CM Vijayan's daughter, now his son-in-law & state minister Mohammed Riyas in trouble

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 26: After Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's daughter Veena Vijayan was in eye of the storm over payments received from Kochi-based mining company CMRL, now his son-in-law and State Public Works Minister P. A. Mohammed Riyas is in trouble for not divulging his wife's income correctly in his nomination paper for assembly election.

Trouble began for Veena in August when Congress legislator Mathew Kuzhalnaden wrote to State Finance Minister K. N. Balagopal alleging that Veena and her firm had received Rs 1.72 crore from CMRL - a Kochi based mining company and she has not only understated her income but also not paid the actual taxes.

Kuzhalnaden had said his claims were based on the report prepared by a department of the Income Tax.

Recently, the state tax department informed the Congress legislator that during the verification, it was found that Veena's company had remitted the IGST for the amount she received from CMRL.

In his nomination paper, Veena's husband Riyas had also mentioned her income incorrectly, and the Congress party is now working on it to take it up in a big way.

According to sources in the know of things, while CMRL is headquartered in Kochi, Veena's firm is based out of Bengaluru, the Congress party is getting ready to take this issue up both in the state and Karnataka too.
