Munugode RO sacked, road roller symbol restored

Nalgonda, October 21: The Election Commission of India (ECI) removed Jagannadha Rao from the post of Returning Officer (RO) to Munugode by-election and in his place Miryalaguda RDO Rohith Singh was appointed as RO.

Yuga Thulasi Party candidate K. Shiva Kumar filed a complaint with the ECI that ‘road roller’ symbol allotted to him was changed to ‘baby walker.’ The poll body expressed anger over RO for violation of election norms and sought his explanation. ‘Road roller’ symbol was restored to the Yuga Thulasi Party.

The ECI directed Jagannadha Rao to report to the state government. Rohith Singh took charge as RO in Chundur on Thursday evening. In the past, he had also served as RO to Nagarjunasagar by-election. The TRS is worried as symbols such as boat, chapati roller, TV and road roller having close resemblance with ‘car’ symbol in the EVM to be used in Munugode by-poll may create confusion among voters.
