CBSE Exam System to Change: Two Exams per Year Proposed

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has proposed conducting Class 10 board examinations twice a year, beginning with the 2026 academic session. A draft notification outlining this change has been published on CBSE's official website.

According to the proposal, the first phase of examinations will take place in February-March, while the second phase will be held in May. Both examinations will cover the complete syllabus, ensuring a comprehensive assessment of students' knowledge. CBSE has invited feedback on the draft proposal until March 9.

Despite conducting board exams twice a year, CBSE clarified that practical exams and internal assessments will be conducted only once. The board believes that this reform will provide students with an opportunity to improve their performance.

The decision was discussed in a meeting chaired by the Union Education Minister. CBSE Examination Controller Dr. Sanyam Bhardwaj stated that after reviewing public feedback, the draft will be revised and finalized.

This reform aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP), which emphasizes flexibility in the education system. The central government is implementing various changes in the education sector in line with this policy, and CBSE's new examination structure is part of these reforms.
