Sonia speaks out in LS, asks Govt to implement division promises to AP
New Delhi, March 17, 2015: Asking Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take the initiative for ensuring quick development of AP as part of the implementation of the provisions of the Bifurcation Act, Congress President Sonia Gandhi has said in Lok Sabha on Tuesday that people of AP have been eagerly waiting for the implementation of division promises for the last nine months. Speaking on the bifurcation amendment bill, Sonia Gandhi has asked the Government to take steps immediately to complete the Polavaram Project, grant separate railway zone to AP and create Visakha-Chennai industrial corridor besides granting special status to the state as assured by the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. She accused the Modi government of neglecting the promises made by the Centre during bifurcation. "Giving Telangana was important but implementing the bifurcation promises to AP is also of same importance, " she remarked. Giving a reply, Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu said the assurance on special status to AP was not part of the Bifurcation Act. "We will fulfill all the promises made in the Bifurcation Act one by one. We will not go back," Venkaiah Naidu has promised.
