TS to prepare concept paper on compulsory education

Hyderabad, March 14: The Government of Telangana is in the process of preparing a concept paper on the implementation of free and compulsory education from kindergarten to post-graduation, reports said. Announcing this here, Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari said the government will consult all stakeholders including the political parties, teachers and students' organisations on the concept paper. Following consultations, the government will place the paper before the State legislature, Srihari said. The minister was replying to a question raised by K. Laxman (BJP) on the issue in the state assembly during budget discussions. The minister further said that the KG to PG Scheme will be implemented before the start of the next academic year. Srihari said the concept paper will address issues like teacher-student ratio, uniforms, provision of mid-day meal, location of schools within a distance of one kilometre from their houses, earmarking of 25 seats in private schools to poor students and textbooks. The minister also said that a three-member committee was established for the implementation of the Right to Education Act in the state.
