Rains continue to lash Anantapuram, Satyasai districts

Anantapuram, October 12: Heavy rains are continuing to create havoc in Andhra Pradesh State. All streams and lakes in Anantapuram and Sri Satyasai districts are overflowing due to the heavy rain since Tuesday night. 
 
Anantapuram city was filled with floodwater. Hundreds of houses in several colonies were surrounded by rainwater. Floodwater from Yaleru and Alamuru ponds has inundated the city. As rainwater entered houses, people spent the night on rooftops. Still floodwater is flowing at a height of three feet in several colonies.
 
The officials have shifted about 300 persons to safe places. They are taking steps to shift people stucked in Rangaswamy Nagar with the help of boats. MLAs Ananta Venkata Ramireddy and T Prakash Reddy and MP Gorantla Madhav are monitoring rescue operations.
 
On the other hand, due to the continuous downpour in Vijayawada for the past two days, the officials have closed the ghat road of Indrakeeladri. Temple EO Bhramaramba requested devotees to use steps and lifts to reach the temple and to stop their vehicles at Kanaka Durga Nagar.
